Compounded Leucovorin (Folinic Acid)
Our pharmacy specializes in compounding oral leucovorin to meet each patient’s individual prescription and dosing needs. Compounding oral leucovorin allows prescribers to prescribe customizable strengths and dosage regimens when personalized formulation is appropriate. This allows for a completely customizable medication regimen.
Oral leucovorin, also known as folinic acid, is an active form of folate and is commonly prescribed for a variety of medical conditions. Healthcare providers may prescribe leucovorin to help reduce the side effects of certain chemotherapy drugs such as methotrexate and also to enhance the effectiveness of certain chemotherapy regimens when used with fluorouracil (5-FU). Leucovorin is now also being prescribed for a subset of neurodevelopmental conditions such as Autism or Cerebral Folate Deficiency. Most patients tolerate oral leucovorin well and many patients experience few or no side effects. When side effects do occur they include: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, insomnia, headache, and skin rash/itching. Patients should contact their healthcare provider immediately if they experience symptoms of an allergic reaction.
We prepare oral leucovorin using high-quality ingredients and follow rigorous compounding standards to help ensure accuracy, consistency, and quality. Each prescription is customized specifically for the individual patient and prepared only with a valid prescription from a licensed healthcare provider. We compound leucovorin into dissolvable tablets and oral suspension in customizable strengths and flavors.
Our experience compounding pharmacists and staff are available to answer questions about Leucovorin, discuss customized dosage forms, and work closely with your healthcare provider to prepare a formulation tailored to your individual needs.
